Learning about kindness, friendship, empathy, feelings, strengths, giving, sharing and love are arguably some of the most valuable experiences in Early Childhood. When wondering about Mother’s Day (see last post) most children really wanted to let their mommies know how much they love them which led us to further wonder about “What is love and how…

Mother’s Day Banner

May 13, 2018 by Claudia Brauer

Some of my favorite art projects for young children include canvas fabric and liquid watercolors. There’s something magical about watching the watercolors bleed into the canvas and children are usually mesmerized by how beautifully the colors mix. Smaller children will enjoy manipulating the foam and especially seem to like the kinesthetic feedback they are getting from rolling paint with…

.
After looking at caterpillars more closely (outside and through various books like “It’s a caterpillar” by Elisa Peters), the children noticed that caterpillars have many different features. To encourage further observations we created our own caterpillar drawings and had much fun with printing and color mixing using chalk pastels.
.
Many questions and much learning ensued: “Why do some caterpillars have soft hairs? Why do some caterpillars have stripes? Do caterpillars have eyes? Do they have teeth to chew on the leaves? Why do they need spikes?”.
.
More details and ideas on the blog (link in profile) 🐛❤️.
  • Encouraging closer observation while adding different details and features to our caterpillar drawings. More details on the blog (link in profile) 🐛.
  • We are experimenting with drawing, printmaking and chalk pastels as we are learning about caterpillars and are looking closely at their different features 🐛. Find all the details on the blog (link in profile) ♡.
